It’s been a minute since I have wrote down my thoughts on my little blog, but today I decided to do just that. “You have to keep up or you will be left behind.” This quote has been absolutely prominent in my brain for the last few weeks. I have been thinking about it a lot in terms of social media and the blogging world. You need to share more photos, comment on more posts, write more blogs….or you will be left behind.
Here’s the real deal. One of my goals for 2019 was to read the entire Bible. Front to back. Because I have been yearning for more knowledge about His word. As I have struggled with feeling like I may get “left behind” by not keeping up with every social media trend, or by not purchasing that summer dress that every single blogger has posted about…I continued to turn towards His word to get me through my thoughts. Maybe if I buy this…or maybe if I post about that…or maybe if I do this I will feel better. I will be happier. I will feel more worthy. Then I read this quote by Pope St. John Paul II.
“It is Jesus you seek when you dream of happiness; he is waiting for you when nothing else satisfies you; he is the beauty to which you are so attracted; it is he who provokes you with that thirst for fullness that will not let you settle for compromise; it is he who urges you to shed the masks of a false life; it is he who read in your heart your most genuine choices, the choices that others try to stifle.”
Every time I pick up my Bible I swear to you I feel better. I feel like the worth and happiness that I sometimes long for in this world is suddenly given to me through His words. At the end of the day…or the end of this life the only thing that matters is that Jesus was first in my life. I let Him provide for me and I let Him tell me I am enough.
I leave you with an encouragement to pick up your Bible. I’m not going to lie and say it has been easy to get myself to read it daily and there are definitely days I have missed. And there are definitely books and chapters (like honestly Genesis….the first book) that are really really difficult to get through. But there are also so many AMAZING powerful messages that you will find if you devote the time. I have been following this “Read The Bible in 6 months” plan if you wanted to try it yourself. You can totally do this.
So listen – you don’t have to post more photos, comment on more posts, or create more blogs. Let His word provide for you. Let His word remind you of your worth which is far more than the number of followers you have.
